Two questions:

1) Does the G-Technology drive have an activity light?
I saw a video where they showed that the "G" lights up. But that means that it has power. Does that light, or any other light, blink when the drive is busy?

2) Is the drive noisy?
I have read reviews where some people complain about clicks and rumbles. Others have mentioned that the drive is quiet. So I am unsure if it is a matter of what different people deem as noise, or if it is a matter of quality control, where some of the drives really are noisy.

And I would imagine that if only a small percentage of the drives are noisy, those people are more likely to be vocal about it.
Lots of people that have no issues are not going to go on-line to say so.

What has your experience been?

Thank you.

I am a video editor, and I bought a 10 TB G Drive, but my problem was that the disk disconnected when I stopped working with it, and I had to turn it off and on again to make it work again, so I changed it for another because I reported it with that problem and they gave me another one the same and with the new album the same thing happens, I don't know what to do with that problem, I have done everything they have told me to do and the problem continues … I am tired of that, hopefully someone help me and tell me what to do !!

Thank you for the thoughtful and insightful review. I had completely forgotten to consider what type of drive is in the unit. The fact that it is a traditional drive with spindles completely devalues the USB-C thunderbolt aspect. I am looking for something that would provide very fast access for gaming. This won’t do, but you save me some money.

Thanks – you just saved me a lot of $$$. I edit 4K Raw, so this one’s not for me. Did you find a more efficient drive?

Seems like all G-tech is not compatible with Mac at all, everywhere I read Mac is having trouble reading thunderbolt.

Nicely explained and good to accept your mistake, which made me to decide to sub you to #142. Please visit my channel as we might help each other to create contents. I am not good on technologies yet, I got over 15TB storage in total in my home including 2TB of Xbox One S, if that counts (Ha Ha Ha)…
Anyways, good contents and hopefully we will be in touch and please stay safe… Thank you…

Didn't Quite Understand. You Exported It Straight Onto The External Hard Drive And It Wasn't Working? Or You Exported it To Your Computer, Then Put it on The Drive?

Thats an interesting point about the wattage. I dont read manuals either so dont feel bad. I would have done the exact same thing. Are you still using this hard drive? Whats your opinion on it now that some time has passed?

Depending on how serious you are about this (as in how much $$$ you want to spend) here’s a suggestion:

Buy yourself a decent NAS (I have a overkill Synology DS 1815+ but that’s because I have tons of data) that has one-drive redundancy at least. Use that as your backup. If you connect it to your network, you won’t be using USB ports to interface with it, and Time Machine, mostly, works well with my NAS.

I also plucked down for a G-DRIVE Mobile SSD for portable editing and it’s a pretty good $350 investment when on the go. When at home, I’ve come to trust my G-Tech G-RAID 8TB.

Definitely start doing the 3-2-1 backup philosophy so you’ll not be stuck in a crappy place if things go REALLY wrong…

I think I prefer the older (24) it's a more cinematic frame rate but it's hard to tell as you are in a different setting… I do enjoy your work, you have a natural feel to your delivery that is engaging! 💪🏽🤠👍🏽
