Does it run minecraft well?
Can you disable the encryption and just use It as a fast SSD to share. Then later put a password on it?
What happens if the admin phone is lost/broken ?
does it grant or not grant access to the whole drive or can folders be protected?
Is it able to parse accessibility to certain files or folders, or is it global go/no-go access?
Drive encryption is nothing new. You can credential any drive with free, open source software.
What's different about this drive is in addition to having to pay for the physical drive, Western Digital get you on a compulsory management subscription in order to use the drive you just purchased.
What's more is as the control platform is centrally hosted, it creates a new attack surface by which malicious actors can access the drive without consent.
This is not a product anyone trying to keep a production secret or otherwise wanting to store sensitive data should even be considering.
